Transition Talk at Bioneers

EVENT: Tuesday, November 30 at 7:00pm

Please join Barbara Bosson and Sara Nichols for a gathering of Los Angeles Bioneers, people dedicated to re-imagining the future of our planet. Bioneers are biological pioneers who are working with nature to heal nature and ourselves. Our guest speaker will be fellow Bioneer Anneke Campbell, writer and Transition Town activist, and Transition Town Leader Joanne Poyourow, and others.

A Transition Town begins by forming an initiating group, a small collection of motivated individuals within a community who come together with a shared concern: how can our community respond to the challenges, and opportunities of Peak Oil and Climate Change? The group then adopts the Transition Model with the intention of engaging a significant proportion of the people in their community to kick off a Transition Initiative.

Anneke will talk about the basic principles of Transition Towns and about the evolution of Transition Town LA. She will describe the activities of the local groups, including food growing, "reskilling classes" and time banking.

A Transition Initiative is a community working together to look Peak Oil and Climate Change squarely in the eye and address the BIG question: "for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil and drastically reduce carbon emissions to mitigate the effects of Climate Change?"

The evening starts at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 30 at our wonderful new venue, G2 Gallery, 1503 Abbot Kinney Bl., Venice, where there is lots of street and behind-the-buildings parking. PLEASE don’t forget to bring a beverage or a potluck munchie contribution in a reusable container to share! We are aiming to be a ZERO waste event, so please be sure to bring your own eating utensils!!! Seriously! Unless you like eating with your fingers out of your hand! Try to arrive as close to 7:00pm as possible so we can get the eating part out of the way and the program underway!

RSVP to Sara at srnichols@mac.com if you are able to come.
