What is the Transition Initiative?
EVENT: Sunday, November 1 from 2:00–5:00pm
Attend a thought-provoking introduction given by Vidya Chaitanya at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Marina del Rey.
13325 Beach Avenue, 310-822-9642
The transition from our current, wasteful, polluting and energy-intensive way of life, to one that uses energy and resources in ways that will enable us and future generations to enjoy a good standard of living in a lower energy context, is vital. Learn how you can manage this transition by bring the head, heart and hands of our yoga community together.
The Transition Initiative is a community response to the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change. Initiated in Ireland in 2004 by Permaculture designer and teacher Rob Hopkins, the Transition Initiative has been adopted by communities around the world looking to transform their locality and build resilience, the ability to withstand shock caused by such things as rising oil prices, for a low carbon future.
In this introduction we will include lessons from Cuba (Power of Community) and the Transition Network in UK/Europe, as well as looking at how we are adapting the model for Los Angeles. There will be time for questions and for exploring how you can get involved and bring the Transition Initiative to your neighborhood.
Donations welcome to support the initiative.
